The Value of a Collective Voice

  1. Home
  2. The Value of a Collective Voice
Body

Hello Fellow Mail Handlers,

We want to talk to you about a fundamental principle that makes our union so powerful: The Value of Collective Voice.

As an individual employee, your voice can be easily lost in the vast bureaucracy of the Postal Service. You can raise a concern, but without the collective power of your coworkers standing behind you, it’s all too easy for your concerns to be ignored.

The union way is different. It’s about building a collective voice so powerful that it cannot be ignored.

How Our Collective Voice Works For You

Our union, the NPMHU, is that collective voice. It’s the platform through which every single member's concerns, ideas, and demands are amplified.

  • Speaking with One Voice at the Bargaining Table: When we negotiate our National Agreement, our representatives are not speaking for a few individuals—they are speaking for tens of thousands of mail handlers. This collective voice gives us the power to secure the wages, benefits, and working conditions that we all deserve.
  • Enforcing the Contract: If management violates our contract, the collective voice of the union gives you the support you need. A single complaint from one mail handler may go unheard, but with the union's full force behind you, your grievance is given the attention and seriousness it requires.
  • Advocating for Change: From safety protocols to scheduling issues, the union acts as a powerful advocate for change. We survey our members and listen to their concerns, then use that feedback to push for improvements that benefit everyone.

Why Your Voice Matters

Some non-members believe that they already benefit from the union’s work without having to join. While it’s true that you may receive the same wages and benefits, you are not contributing to the very voice that secures them. Every member who joins adds to our strength and makes our collective voice louder.

Your voice is a vital part of the chorus. By joining the NPMHU, you are not just gaining benefits; you are lending your voice to a powerful collective that protects and improves the careers of every mail handler. You are becoming part of the solution.

Join us. Add your voice to ours, and together, we will continue to shape our future.
