
Richard James Mason Jr., affectionately known as Bobby, was born on October 7, 1955. He peacefully departed this world on September 10, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Bobby was a former VA State Representative Board Member at MHU Local 305. All of us will miss him dearly.
Bobby was a dedicated and respected member of his community, known for his unwavering love and commitment to his family. He was educated in Boston, Massachusetts, before moving to Virginia in 1987, where he graduated from George Wythe High School. He then served his country for four years in the Air Force.
After his military service, Bobby continued his life of service, first with the Boys & Girls Club and then with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler for 38 years. He was also a long-time shop steward, serving his union with integrity and dedication. He was a former VA State Representative Board Member for the Mail Handlers Union (MHU) Local 305.
Bobby's love for life was evident in his favorite pastimes, which included playing ping pong and checkers, entertaining, and spending time with his loved ones. He was a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the New England Patriots, and he enjoyed a good political debate with his brother. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, quick wit, and love for grilling.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard James Mason, and his sister, Doretha Crawley. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Mason; his mother, Lorraine Patterson; his two sons, Antonio "Snap" Williams and Richard James Mason III; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Lloyd Mason and Wayne Mason, and sisters, Marguerite Hakim and Sylvia Paige, along with many other cherished family members and friends. His life was a testament to strength, kindness, and unwavering love.
